COMPARATIVE STUDY ON HYDROLYTIC ENZYMES PRODUCED BY DIFFERENT MORPHOLOGICAL FORMS OF CANDIDA ALBICANS

    Get PDF
In recent years, the incidence of fungal infections has been rising all over the world. The ability of Candida albicans to switch from yeast to hyphal growth is essential for its virulence. The aim of this comparative study was to biotype and characterize phospholipase, proteinase, phosphatase and haemolytic activities of yeast and hyphal forms of Candida albicans. The hyphal form of Candida albicans secrets high quantity of hydrolytic enzymes than yeast form, which helps in its virulence. These results suggest that pathogenic fungi produce larger amount of inducible hydrolytic enzymes than non-pathogenic fungi. In this investigation, plate methods were used to determine the phospholipase, proteinase and haemolytic activities and spectrophotometric method was employed for testing acid phosphatase activity

The War Beyond Ruin by Gemma Liviero: A Novel about Atrocities of War

    Get PDF
War causes physical exertion and suffering. The soldiers and the people have to make themselves indifferent to these otherwise they would be destroyed. There is always uncertainty in war. Chance also plays an important role in war as it makes everything more uncertain. The whole course of events is interfered by it. War is a matter of determination and courage. The War Beyond Ruin is Liviero's war based fiction. It is a lyrical writing and unusual story. Though a war novel, this is not typical World-War-II-era novel. It's beautiful and gritty historical fiction combined with mystery and suspense and completely unique characters who live through hard times. The ending is life-affirming and fills with hope. It is all about the misery and complexity of life during and after WW II in Germany and Italy

Antibacterial and antioxidant properties of macrocyclic Schiff bases with vanadium (V) complexes

    Get PDF
Macrocyclic Schiff bases have been synthesized by the condensation of acetyl acetone with semicarbazide hydrochloride and thiosemicarbazide in presence of methanol. Further, their oxovanadium complexes have been synthesized by using vanadium acetylacetone. The structural assignment of these compounds has been made on the basis of MP, TLC, MW determination,  conductivities, elemental analysis and UV, IR and 1HNMR spectral datas. The synthesized compounds were screened for their in vitro growth inhibiting activity against different strains of bacteria viz., Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus licheniformis, Escherichia coli and Micrococcus luteus (ATCC) and were compared with the standard antibiotic oflaxocin. Also in-vitro antioxidant activity of all compounds was determined by nitric acid free radical scavanging assay

Validation of Multiple Solute Model for Application to Micellar Enhanced Ultrafiltration and Comparison with Modified Resistance in Series Model

    Get PDF
Modified resistance in series model and multiple solute models have been studied for its application in micellar enhanced ultrafiltration (MEUF). Experimental results for separation of Ni(II) ions from synthetic wastewater with anionic surfactant sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and nonionic surfactant Tween 80 are used for validation of mathematical models. Modified resistance in series model is characterized by model parameters such as specific resistance α0, membrane resistance Rm and mass transfer coefficient k. Whereas, multiple solute model is characterized by the parameters such as membrane resistance Rm, permeability coefficient Pm, back transport coefficient Kbi and mass transfer coefficient ki for each solute in the system. These parameters are estimated by using the Levenberg-Marquardt method coupled with the Gauss-Newton algorithm using MATLAB. The simulation results for multiple solute model are in good agreement with the experimental results as compared to the simulation results obtained by using modified resistance in series model
